Phlebotomy Course

The Phlebotomy Course is a rewarding path for individuals who desire to work directly with patients. Phlebotomy Technicians use care and skill to obtain blood specimens from patients for analysis in the clinical laboratory. Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, reference laboratories, and donor centers.

Course Details

• The semester-long phlebotomy courses (MLTP 101 Phlebotomy and MLTP 102 Applied Phlebotomy) are offered twice a year, once in the Fall and then again in the Spring.
• Although a certificate of completion is not conferred, students who complete both courses are eligible for national certification by examination for a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Admission and Application

• Applications for the Fall courses are accepted from April 15 to May 1, and from November 1 to November 15 for the Spring courses.
• Students need to attend a group information session before submitting their application.
• Incomplete applications, or applications from students who have not attended an information session, will not be accepted.
• Valid applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is filled.

• Sessions are held in room HS160, located in the Department of Health Sciences building.
